Rut in Alabama?

when would you Alabamians say the seeking phase of the rut occurs in Northa alabama?

I have never managed to catch it.
I have always heard its later here than most places, like end of december -january.

Ive been hunting north Alabama for 25 years ... its hard to pin point the peak of the rut but generally the first week after the full moon in January is when you will see most of the movement ...

I recently read an article in the little rule book that is free at walmart. This article says says that the game dept. did a sample harvest of pregnant does and apparently through autopsy determined the date they were bred. This study showed that these does were bred between the middle of Dec. through the middle of Jan. So I guess this is the peak according to the game dept. The herd in AL was transplanted from all over and apparently the descendants of these transplanted deer breed around the time their ancestors did. I've personally seen bucks chasing does from opening day to the last day of the season. So I try to be in the woods every day I can because you never know when HE will walk out.

Don't be surprised seeing a buck chasing a doe at any time. Overpopulation, stocked from all over the country and everything else, it's messed up. I've seen worked scrapes in late turkey season. Our peak in south Bama is around Jan 20.

JD I would have to think it would depend on what area of the state your in ... I also hunt Lincoln Co Tennessee around Taft and Cold Water and these deer go into rut mid November I took this 10pt last year on Nov. 26th...just10 to 15miles north of the Alabama state line..yet our deer in north Alabama go into rut about a month later ..just a different strain of deer .... but makes it tuff to pin point ...

Always seems to be during the first two weeks of Jan. Like they said before, it could be anytime.
