Whitetail Buck Photos Nov8/02
I went out to try and get some photos again today. It was a miserable day. Overcast windy and foggy. I spotted this whitetail buck and got within about 150 yards of him. I tried taking some photos of him but there was hardly enough light for the lens even though it was only 4:45. Alot of the photos I took at the longer range turned out too blurry due to the slow shutter speed I needed to use(didn't have a tripod). The buck is a 5X5 but it is hard to tell in the photos because he was mostly looking towards me when he was close and the side shots from a distance turned out too blurry. He dissappeared from site for a couple of minutes and I was able to slide down a steep hill on my belly and get a little closer. He stopped and worked a scrape and then started heading for a draw where I would lose him. I pulled out the grunt call and grunted at him. He looked at me but continued walking. I grunted again and he stopped and grunted back but continued on. I grunted at him a third time, he stopped and grunted twice, he then did a U-turn and headed straight for me. He came within 20 yards of me looking for the deer that was grunting. I was not able to use full zoom as there was not enough light but I did get a couple of decent shots of him. He ended up just continuing around the hill and that was the last I saw of him.

I have filled my mule deer tags already and I still have a whitetail tag but the season doesn't start until the 18th.
Two Beards
I have had bucks grunt back on quite a few occasions while using the grunt call, both mule deer and whitetail.
