Setting out a feeder.

Where's a good place to hang a feeder. On trails? In the heavy woods or in the clear cuts? Let me know what you think... Thanks...

Sorry I asked. Did I say I was going to hunt the feeder? I'm setting up a camera to see what the bucks are looking like this year. Didn't know it was going to be a big deal. If it is to you, just skip this post.

Good-- I like to put them close to trails, in sight of my stand. Some onmy lease like them in the open, butclose to cover so they will notbe to scared to go to it in the daytime.
PS-- don't worry aboutthe blowhards on here. Most of the guys on hereare good guys and will shoot straight with you.

Guys I know and hunt with hang their feeders off the trail a few yards. One particular feeder which always brings in deer is just into the woods in the corner of a field and about 30 feet from a muddy creek bottom with heavy traffic. That location always gets deer no matter how hard they are pushed during the season.

However, I use that location as a barometer in that if there are deer hitting that feeder there will be deer down the road where I have my stand in an area full with acorns from September to November!

I agree with St. Barnard. Make sure you put it very close to thick cover. They will feel safer eating there.

Setting it close to cover is good but if you set the feeder up early enough out in the open a little the deer will start to realize that it is safe to go out durring the day and some will start paterening themselvs that way but that is just what I've experienced someof the time.

make sure your laws allow it. also make sure you use a feed that they are used to. if there is corn in the area use corn etc. also i would put it out as soon as possible to give them enough time to get used to the noise. i wouldnt put it too close to bedding areas because the noise of it could spook game till they get used to it
