Washing hunting clothes
 

I was in wal-mart buying some laundry detergent to wash my hunting stuff. A women in the store told me not to buy the expensive no-scent detergent. She said that I should use baking soda instead. Has anyone had success with baking soda vs. detergent? It sure would save lots of money.

I know a lot of guys who use just baking soda or baking powder (I'm not sure whick is correct, but it does make a difference). I use the non-UV enhancing, scent free detergent, like they sell at Walmart to take away my leftover stink. However; after I hang it out to dry, I put it in a plastic bag filled with leaves, pine branches, split acorns, etc. so the clothes absorb the "nature" odors. I try to use branches from trees found in the area that I plan to hunt. I use a ground blind trying to shadow a tree and just blend in. I figure I stand a better chance if I kinda smell like a tree also.

I'm cheap, I use Baking Soda.

baking soda, washing soda (also replaces deercain) or the sports wash
anything that is scent free and W/O UV brighteners

hey jim, what kind of bag do you use. I thought about doing the same thing with lets say a garbage bag but I am afraid of that garbage bag smell absorbing into the clothes.

for years i used baking soda only to wash my hunting clothes, air dry them outside, then into a clean plastic garbage bag. but i found that the baking soda fades your camo, so use the hunters scent free detergent now.

The rut will be at basically the peak and maybe even the begging this year in kent county michigan.

I tried using baking soda and also found that my camo would fade quickly, too. I now use the sportswash you can find at Walmart in the hunting section. This will be my 3rd season using it and my camo looks good as new. One bottle of the stuff has lasted me this long. I usually wash my stuff only 2-3 times per season. I keep them in a large rubbermaid container between hunts.

baking soda seems to really fade my camo badly almost making it look whitesh faded real bad i use knight and hale camo wash now and it seems to be a great choice i would not recommend using baking nothing soda or powder get a nice camo or sports wash
