yeah Ive always liked the 30-30. But my grampa has a Marlin 336C thats chambered in 35 rem, havent used it for deer yet, but he shot his first deer with it in '65, and brings it as a backup on his bear hunts. I like both rounds.

Theres nothing wrong with the .308 Winchester either, for short range shots!
Just my personal philosophy, but ANY deer cartridge can make a short shot, but the short range cartridges CAN'T make a long shot if one comes up!

Bingo! 112 years and still going strong. The 35 Rem has just a hair more oomph, but nothing can be compared to the legendary"vibe" that the30-30 has. There's just something about a classic 30-30 lever gun that can't be explained.

Same here, a pair of Marlin Levers. The 30-30 gets used the most.

(and it helps that I also havebarrels for myContender in 30-30 so it's one less cartridge I have to pack if going out of town)

well let me be ther barer of bad news to all you tirdy tirdy fans out there, I have been using a 35rem for many years and there hasnt been a deer that I have shot with it that hasnt dropped dead in its tracks up to 250 yards some on full out runs. I have shot a few deer with a 30-30 but personally the 30-30 is way over rated and the .35rem is way over looked as an excellent all purpose deer rifle, use the .35 youll be much more happier.

The .308Win iscapable of much longer range shots than theothertwo cartridges talked about here. It is still the prefered weapon forswat/sniper teams and I have killeddeer at well over 300yds with it.
