Any idea on a rough score??
Lookn to see If others have the same score as i do on this buck. It looks to be a 4x5....thinkn he may push just a bit over 160 but it's hard to tell in velvet. either way it's another nice Alberta buck

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
yea 150 to 160, he's a good one
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
I would say he,s pretty darn close to the 160 mark. a bit more or a bit less. He is a dandy, thats for sure
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
145, he doesn't have the tine length to make 160 IMO
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Scores in my book
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
140!
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
beautiful buck, great pic, im saying high 150's good luck hunting him.
Dan |
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
150-160 give or take some inchs.
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
140 once he is out of velvet
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
ORIGINAL: bob d 140 once he is out of velvet He's a darn nice buck, but 160 he ain't! |
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Definately around 160 or more. This is a canadian buck and has a very large body I bet. It is either a 10 or 12. If a 10 he has long brow tine. Real long main beam either way, and im guessin a nice spread. Good luck!!
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
definitely qualify for a severe case of the shakes,, after it hits the ground!
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
He's a good buck but not a 160. Once the velvet comes off he'll be a 140 class deer. The velvet and the angle his head is at makes his size deceptive.
He would defintly suffer from "ground shrinkage", if you were hoping for a 160. |
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
I'd say he's in the 150's.. Nice Buck!
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Impossible to say with any certainty from just a lateral view, but he could easily have 130 inches of bone. Give him 18 inches of spread, and you'd be pushing 150. Not much more than that IMHO......
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
I think he'll be in 140 range.
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Not to be rude but I'm curious how many people posting have actually seen a 160"+ buck?
I cant tell how many points this buck has. If hes an 8 pointer he will break 150" gross. I could put him into the high 150's- low 160's if he is a 10 pointer or bigger. He has long main beams, awesome mass which you can tell by comparing his base to the size of his eye in the picture. I'm going to guess he has 5 1/2" bases. The buck has everything it takes to break into the 150+ range. |
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Here is an 8 pointer that we killed last year. Even though he had a SHORT G3, he still grossed 155". Looking at the trail cam pictures that we had of this buck (none of them really good) we put him at 148" tops. I was in for a big suprise when I walked up on this buck. The fact that he had 6 2/8" bases didnt hurt. :)

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Check your ruler! Neither of those bucks would go 150!
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
As a comparison this 4x4 netted 146-3/8

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
if that buck scored 146 then i'd say the one above did go over 150.......i say the buck that we are rough scoring would go right around 155-160....that buck is definitely bigger that 140
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
One thing to remember is that the buck that I posted a reference picture of was a mature Saskatchewan buck weighing over 300lbs on the hoof. The 4x4 above it is a texas buck, which will have a significantly smaller body and head.In other words the bigger the deer, the smaller the antlers look on it's head. The 146 buck was 20" wide with g-2s over 10" and g-3s over 8",but the brows were quite small or it would have broken 150.
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Guys just because a buck is from Texas, doesn't discredit his antler size. A 150" buck is a 150" no matter where, regardless if he has a 1000# body or not. And that picture is from a deer that we KILLED, there is no need to guess his score because we already know it.......
Here are the measurements from that deer. Inside spread 20 0/8" Beams 24 0/8" 23 4/8" G1 5 2/8"7 0/8" G2 12 7/8" 12 4/8" G3 5 0/8"10 2/8" H1 6 1/8" 6 2/8" H2 5 2/8" 5 1/8" H3 4 1/8"4 4/8" H4 2 4/8" 2 7/8" Total mass measurement = 36 3/8" (which is HUGE for an 8 pointer, because of where you have to take the H4) Total Gross measurement = 155 6/8" StubbleJumper, my 8 beats yours on pretty much every measurement, even though your buck hasa 300# body :D |

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
I am in now way discreditting the TX deer at all. You scored the deer, so you physically had the antlers in your hand. It went 155. As for a picture though, you can't tell by looking at it, that yours was bigger. Texas deer are known for their smaller bodies making their racks appear larger. Therefore, the 155 on your deer looks tons bigger than a 155 on a Canadian deer. Its hard to rough score deer from other areas of the country because we are used to how are deer look. For example, most of the deer around here in Illinois, once mounted have an eye-set, measure of outside eyeball to eyeball, of about 5.5-6 inches. However, I would bet anything the heads on those canadian bucks are quite a bit larger that Illinois bucks, and the heads on TX bucks are smaller than Illinois bucks. Just my opinion.

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Swampy, very nice buck! I'd say he's pushing 170! But he has at least 12 scoreable points vs. an 8 pointer. Thats almost apples to oranges! It takes a hell of a lots of mass and width for an 8 to come close to a 12!
From the pictures of the 8 pt. at a side view, you can't see the width really good, and both are still in velvet! Just from the pics I'd say those bucks would have a hard time making 150, and with the tine lengths on Stubby's buck, if it's 146, there is no way the 8 is bigger! Not knocking any of these bucks, but it is hard to judge from pics! |

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Can't see it good enough
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
score?
i would put all of them somewhere between the fried potatoes and corn. ive never been too interested in what a deer scores. |
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Thats a great buck. I wish I could see a 120 class deer.
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
id say that the nicholal buck could get to about 172 (would like to see the spread) but that is what im guessing ., and the swampthing 1st one im saying around 156 5/8 and the 2nd one im goin to say 143., you are right pictures are hard to tell untill you really put a tape to it ., but those are my guesses:eek:by the way they are all NICE deer!!!

RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Score?????
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
Well I really couldnt believe Mnsqueeze gave those measurements. He is the man too have sitting next too you scoring deer in the field! He was off by a total of 4.5" total between the 2 deer!
First buck 10 point with sticker on left g1, 152.5" b&c, its got really good mass throughout. Second buck, 13 point 142-5/8' b&c, alot of points, but is lacking in mass. I would pull the trigger on either one,, unfortunately havent had the chance too pull the trigger on anything of that size. I did set my buddies up in the stands that they killed those deer out of.. Theyre first bucks either one of them have ever killed! |
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
158 & 3/8s
|
RE: Any idea on a rough score??
if i got a pic of that buck(in iowa for body size comparison) i would put him at 160 maybe an inch or two more(really depends on spread). im talking gross, the only score i pay attention to. he has brows well over 5 inches long, great beams, only average tine length otherwise. but i might be wrong of course cause velvet is always hard to judge
