Antler growth question?
 

As of August 13th, how much growth if any do the deer in Ohiohave to go before becoming "hard horned"?

I don't know if this applies all over the country but i saw a deer and deer hunting episode a while back and the antler growth generally went like this...the bulk of the growing happens from mid april 15 to june 15...by july 15 the buck will have all of the points he will get for the season (eg 8 or 10) and from july 15to aug 15 all he will do is put on a little more mass and tine length. after aug 15 the bases get that ring that in effect grows outwards and cuts off the blood flow to the rest of the antler at which point it begins to harden up.

I suspect that by the middle of August, your deer are carrying as much antler as they are going to have.
