2 weeks ago i was shooting my bow when i was surrounded by 2 black timber rattlesnakes that was a little scary

I hunt two WMA's in mississippi. We have alot of snakes and there have been a lot of rattlers killed.

You know guys-although they pack a bad punch, as long as you don't provoke them, they are essentially harmless. Most of these venomous snakes can be approached to extremely close distances without endangering yourself at all. In my experience (I work with snakes), I have never seen one strike that wasn't warranted to do so (i.e. from our prodding). I'm not saying you should interact with all venomous snakes, but there is really no immediate danger to yourself when you encounter them. Enjoy them from a distance, and you will find the to be another rewarding animal from the forest...

I'm the same way! I'm terrified of snakes and when makes the mistake of crossing my path, I kill it(right after I clean out my shorts). As a teenager, I stumbled accross a whole nest of rattlers under some junk I was cleaning up in our pasture. My feet never touched the grass getting back to the truck! I was shaking so bad I couldn't even load my gun!

BTW, not all rattlers give you a warning! We were used to the ones in North Central KS, and western NE that give you plenty of warning. We moved to SE Kansas and found out that they didn't buzz around there. You could walk right next to them and not know they were there until you got tagged.
