Uncle Matt, you are right. I shouldn't have attacked nine point personally and I apologize to you Nine Point. The fact still remains that you really need to listen to some of these folks here. They're only telling you from experience and are trying to get you to learn to hunt ethically. Like the others said, if you doubt you can cleanly kill the animal, don't shoot. Wait for a better shot. There's plenty of deer out there.
Maybe my fuse is a little too short when it comes to posts that appear to be dangerous or unethical behaviour, but I have good reason. Hopefully none of you will ever experience what I went through last year on opening day of the shotgun season in NY state. I was shot in the back from a stray slug that went up over a small hill and down to me. It missed my spind by a quarter of an inch and is still in my back, laying on top of my right lung. They can't take it out and I still have a lot of pain from it. The guy that shot me was shooting at running deer and emptied his gun, reloaded, emptied again and reloaded and emptied again. All together, the game warden and state police counted 11 SHOTS!!! This is why I'm telling Nine Point to be more careful. You don't know how far those slugs can travel, especially those newer sabot slugs. They can take down deer at 200 yds. I've done it myself so I know how powerful they are. Just because there are trees in the background doesn't mean a slug can't get through directly or by riccochet. Remember my friend. Once you pull that trigger, you can't bring it back! And in every state, no matter if it was an accident or not, you're going to get prosecuted if you injure or kill someone because the law says YOU are responsible for where that slug or bullet ends up.

Ok, I'm done preaching. Ya'll take care and have a safe, successful season!

I am a new hunter and I think safety is most important. I will never take a shot unless I am sure. Crowpecker sorry to hear that some irresponsible person shot you, I have heard that there are some guys that hunt the public lands in NC that are not very safe. Kinda makes me weary of going out there, I would like to find some private land to hunt on but right now I don't have any available.

Thanks Hector. I'm in upstate NY, not NC. I was hunting on private land when it happened. People still sneak in. Some people just don't care.

Well I had a succesful Deer Season. Ended it today with a Buck... One ahot with a 2 3/4" Rottweil Slug at 30 yards. (12 Guage) He ran only 15 yards. We had unlimited any deer permits here in Missouri...

Well, I missed the original post, since it has been edited out. I am glad that you are all being nice again. Keep your spirits up, your powder dry, your knife and broadheads sharp, and always remember to use your God given common sense when you are in the field.

The best of luck in all your hunting endeavors!!!

God Bless,
Dave

9point I obviously missed what you originally posted, congrats on your deer, but I will emphasize what crowpecker and some others said, the only thing more important than practice and a good clean shot is safety.
