Hunting Contest

I'm a firefighter and avid deer hunter from NC. I am currently working on a website for deer hunting. Its going to be a website similar to some hunting sites, but a little different. Its going to be a subscriber website kind of like an online magazine. For every member, they will be eligible to submit hunting pictures in various categories such as trail cameras, bowhunting, muzzleloader, and others. Prizes will be given for the biggest deer, most unique trail camera photos, etc. There will be a separate category for each in a male and female. All entries will be judged with prizes ranging from as low as $500 cash to several $1000's in cash to product prizes, possibly hunting trips, and also all members will be put into a "pot" and randomly drawn for free gas (up to a years supply). The drawings are going to take place each month throughout the year and previous years hunting and trail camera pictures will be eligible. I'm trying to find out what kind of interest there would be in this type of site and what people would be willing to pay for the subscription. The more members I can get, the more prizes I am going to be able to offer. If you would like more information or have any comments and/or suggestions. Or if you'd be interested, please email me @ [email protected]. Another thing, there will also be a discussion board area and also links to many of your favorite hunting websites and stores for your convenience. Again, I'm just trying to find out if there would be any interest in the hunting community for that type of website, because I know there are already a lot of websites for hunting out there, but I know most of them do not offer that good of a contest for its members. Thanks for any input anybody can give me on this idea.

RE: Hunting Contest

The problem I have with a country wide deer hunting contest is that the bigger weight deer are all in the northern states if you go by weight. We have weighed does for years and 143 lbs is the largest we have ever seen and a 220 pound buck is the biggest we usually see. Antler wise the Texas or Illinois and contiguous states usually have the largest rackedbucks, so any kind of contest should be regionally. The largest buck I have seen in years was probably a 154 gross and the state record is less than 200 I think. Now if you go by total poundage the southern areas we might be in there, I know one guy that shot 46 legal deer a couple of years ago.
