Tennessee Deer getting bigger by the year

I have not posted on here in a while I hope everyone is doing good. Been busy trying to put up stands , having kids and working . Not in that order.

Anyway, here are some pics i got last night from near my new stand. The Tn deer are getting bigger. I know they are no Brute deer as you all have further north and in Tx. But I am sure proud of these deer considering we started managing them about 4 years ago. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think.

Pics down a bit

I actually just bought a 8 acre spread behind a golf course that has some of the biggest apple and walnut trees you have ever seen on it. Just so happens to have a nice creek running through it as well. I feel pretty lucky to have it.

All I am saying is Tennessee deer are starting to look like the deer we see on these hunting shows where some guy or gal paid to hunt this 140 and up class deer. Heck after the price they pay for some of these hunts, they could have bought and paid for the land I just bought. I am very happy and privileged to live in Tennessee. Hill country. Our TWRA has really help us get back on track. [/align]

Hillbilly, your deer are looking good. We're seeing deer like that too, sure keeps my heart pumping and excited. I'm in north Giles country, where are you?

You're making me jealous. You southern hunters don't know how lucky you are. Pennsylvania deer hunting has been going down-hill for some time now.

I have hunted southern Tennessee and north Alabama for over 25 years and saw more nice bucks last year then ever before. I was lucky enough to harvest a pretty nice 10 pt in Tennessee and missed a chance at even a larger 8 pt by being asleep at the switch ..but MAYBE THIS year !

LOL,

Right out past arrow lake. I have a pretty good spot behind the lake. The farm that i hunt the most is right outside the city limits in Columbia, on the Mt Pleasant side. ever want to swap hunts together let me know. I have almost planned out every weekend starting Sept 1-3 in Ky and leading up to December

Now maybe all you Tenn. boys can stay home instead of killing our Ky deer.:D

I'm glad to see the management is working. It always has a lot of opposition until people see that its working.

I'll be in Adair county come September 1st. Hey it works both ways, at least its cheaper for you to come here and hunt with us than us with you. $121 dollars is crazy this year

man·age·ment (măn'Ä*j-mÉ™nt)
n.
[ol][*]The act, manner, or practice of managing; handling, supervision, or control: management of a crisis; management of factory workers.[*]The person or persons who control or direct a business or other enterprise.[*]Skill in managing; executive ability.[/ol]

I see ...so that is "YOUR" definition of managing ..but how does it apply to deer in "YOUR" opinionis my question? You see some are not just trophy hunters ..some are meat hunters and the term "management" would be subjective ... thus the reason for my question to you ..

i think he managed that heard by 6 or 8 points or a 15 inside spread and im assuming whacking a doe or two a year

I agree w/u 100% on TN deer getting bigger. This yr. already I have filmed the biggest bucks in velvetI have ever seen in person. Last yr. I missed a 120 10pt. but this yr. he is close to 140.. Alway's good when something good happens out of a miss

I wish there were some type of management going on in the area that I live in. It seems like every year there are a few nice deer taken. But the potentially nice bucks that get harvested far outweigh the mature ones that do.

Sorry but you didn't ask for MY definition, you ask me to define managemnet.

All I was getting at is Tennessee is seeing better quality bucks as well as a better balanced herd. In 1998 they went from an 11 buck limit to a 2 buck limit. Then in 1999 they went to a 3 buck limit where it stands now. Also the doe harvest has gone up 6 percent. It may not be a perfect management plan but it was much better than it was.
