Report on hunting in wind.

Friday wind was 15 miles/hr, no deer. Stalked some bedding.
Friday evening wind calmed to 5 miles/hr, Deer were everywhere.

Sat. wind was 15 to 20 miles/hr with gusts up to 25 miles/hr, no deer to be found. Stayed windy all day, didnt see a single deer.

Sun. wind died, 6 to 8 miles/hr, deer everywhere.

On windy days over 10 mph here in the N.E. I keep moving and try to cover the thickest parts of the brush, even if I don't score someone else will. I have found out over the years that it don't pay for me to get all scent free and sit in a stand and have a couple other hunters running around the woods on a windy day smelling like tobacco and donuts, you have to go into the thickest parts to get the deer out and very few hunters are willing to do that today.

Thought I replied this morning but it didn't take. So, In Conn yesterday had 20 to 30 MPH gusts in the morning ahead of the rain. Saw a big doe walking with the wind 0700, 2 does walkng into the wind 0720 and a big 8 point right behind the dose by about a 100 yards or so ,no shot. half hour later a 7 point on the same trail. Arrowed him nice. This is the most action I have seen this year. So much for the high wind no deer theory. The Rut is in full swing, I think all knowledge of deer habits is OFF in the rut . Be in the woods all the hours you can reguardless of weather and you will see deer. Striper Phil
