KANSAS GIANT!!!
I just posted these pics for a topic on this forum. I thought I would share them with everyone to see. This deer was found dead on our property last deer season. The KDWP declared it died of natural causes. No sign of being shot. Just fighting with other deer. It was blind in one eye. It scored 248" B&C Net. Just wanted everyone to know what Kansas has to offer.

RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
That was an awesome buck!
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Thats an amazing buck.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
MERCY!!!!! Our old nannies would run like hell if a buck like that walked throught the woods. Looks like at least 24 points, how many did he have?
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Amazing similarity to the buck shown by the Drury brothers at the end of "Hang to Kill", their latest video offering. They had been patterning a buck they had labeled "Heart Attack", and found it dead while shed hunting. Although a typical frame without all the drop tines, the head looked very similar. One of the bucks killed in the video was blind in one eye as well.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Wow look at the drop tines on that son of a .... I mean wow that buck is awesome.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
This buck had 33 scorable points. It had an extra main beam coming off the right antler that was broken in half. I have more pics but can't get them to load. I guarantee this is not the Drury Bros buck. We have this rack on display locally for everyone to see. There was 106 6/8" of non-typical points on this buck. He is absolutely amazing. The kicker of it all... this property had not been hunted for deer for many years. The landowner's brother found it while pheasant hunting.

Another pic

RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
That is a freaky looking monster of a buck. Wow!
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Pretty cool!!!!
HCH![]() |
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I guarantee this is not the Drury Bros buck. Just was a coincidence that I'd just got through watching them find that pickup with the head almost inexactly the same shape, and another monster at that. |
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I didn't take it wrong at all. I have seen that buck as well and you are right, they are way different. I just didn't want others on this forum to think I was running some kind of scam. This buck is the real deal. It is amazing how many people have offered to buy it.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
That buck is amazing...he's HUGE!
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
huge
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I would say there are probably others in that spot w/great genetics as well. Since it hasn't been hunted it has probably become a refuge area of some sort. If you think he died fighting other bucks, just imagine how big the other one was
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
WOW awesome
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I can understand there being a lot of blind deer in that area if anymore have racks like that. They would be getting pocked from all directions while fighting. That is a monster rack!!!
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
wow....
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
That was my pet deer that escaped. I thought I'd never see it again. Just e-mail me and I'll tell you where to send the rack. Thanks. lol

RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!

|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
bpjeep,
I was just getting ready to say the same thing!! I don't know if I could steay myself to take a shot at him! And like you said I'd have to change my pants after it was all said and done!!! Wow... |
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Awesome Buck! You're lucky the GW let you keep it. I'm glad the GW did, just saying that I've heard plenty of stories where the KDWP took the deer away, in this type of situation of recovering this type of deer.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Funny story about that. The guy who found it cut the head off with his pocket knife. He doesn't deer hunt but knew it was big. He showed his brother after he got home and they decided after showing it to a couple of people that they were going to get a lot of publicity. They weren't sure what to do so they decided to call the KDWP and inform them. They took the officer to the carcus and he investigated it for about 2 hours and decided that there was nothing illegal about the deer being dead. He said it died of natural causes and issued a salvage tag. After issuing the tag he asked if he could see the rack at the house. After showing the officer the rack they could tell that they were lucky to be able to keep it.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Am I understanding this correctly?? If you come across a dead antlered deer in the woods you need a investigation and a salvage tag before you can keep it? IF the game warden will let you keep it?????? I always thought if you come across a dead buck in the woods, his rack belonged to you. Finders keepers, loosers weepers.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Seems strange I know but if you find a dead deer and want to keep it for example roadkill, you need a salvage tag in order to keep it. The tag is issued by the KDWP. All deer must have a legal tag in order to keep the meat. It is a gray area when it comes to keeping the rack of a buck found dead. Technically you are not keeping the meat, the tag stays with the meat in KS and not with the rack. You would think that you would not need a tag to keep the rack but I'll tell you what, you don't want to get caught with a rack if you don't have a legal tag for it. And in this case where it was highly publicized. It just keeps the locals from accusing you of poaching.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I am from kansas, spent every year of my life with the exception of the last few months. I know you need a salvage tag for the meat, and the tag stays with the meat. Thats how it should be.But when the meat is gone, the tag gets thrown away right? What about that deer thats on the wall, the racks kept in the shed or garage. Do we need to keep the tag for it to?If you come across a deer that appears that some one has tried to poach, I know you should call the Game Warden. They take care of the deer and it belongs to them. However if you find a deer in the woods and no evidence of poaching. Say coyotes killed it, or it was tangled in a fence and died. Do you still need a salvage tag to legally have possession of that rack?? Does not seem right to me. But I do agree with you about having the salvage tag for that huge non typical just for the fact that it proves they didn't poach it. I might email pratt and see what they say.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
In this case the animal was completely in tact (minus the head). It had only been dead about 2 or 3 days. I think he issued the salvage tag because it did have meat on it. It was not bare bones. I agree with you completely. You do not need to keep a tag for the racks that you find in the woods or have hanging on the wall. All I know is that is the way they handeled the situation and they weren't going to argue with the officer when he issued the tag. I think that in some cases the officer is unsure of the exact rules and to be on the safe side in this instance he did issue a salvage tag.

RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
that thing is huge!!!
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
Great looking deer.
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I emailed KDWP off thier web site. This is the reply that I got back. Thought you might be interested. This surprises me!!!
Yes, you would have to havea deer salvaged tagged to possess a deer that you find dead in the woods in order to keep the rack.Even deer found deadtangled in a fence would be required to be salvaged tagged. Shed antlers do not require a tag.You should also be able to provide a tag for a mounted deer head. This is to provide a paper trail on how the deer was legally acquired in case there is a question. RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
What an unbelievable find!
I believe in Illinois you can't even take the head home before being issued a tag by a CPO. |
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
very cool
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
wow thats one big kansas buck sure would be nice to see one like that up here in my huntin area
|
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I'll type something as soon as I clean out my undies!:DSuper woweee!!!
He had probably never been touched by the human eye, well, since he was 2 1/2 anyways. |
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
I recieved an Email that included 5 pics. of this same buck, back on 1-12-06, and the story says that Cabala's had already bought the buck for $9000!! It was found in Osbourne County, according to the Email!
SO, now you're saying that it wasn't sold? |
RE: KANSAS GIANT!!!
This rack has not been sold. It still belongs to the owner.
