10mm or 45acp

OK, got some advice over at the gun thread. Looking for a semi-auto that will take a deer. They suggest 10mm. Local store states .45acp will also do the job. Which would you choose. Like the ballistics/power of the 10mm better but like the price of the .45acp ammo better. Ultimately, though, I can live with whatever. Thanks in advance for the wisdom.

Will you be using it for other things as well? Home defense? Target practice?

Personally I don't like either one for deer, unless you're pretty close, and the deer aren't LARGE.

Why is semi-auto the choice?

But if I had to choose between the two I wouldgo with the .45. There's just so many more options both weapon and ammo wise.

If you're really stuck on the semi-autos, let's not leave out the Desert Eagle in .44 or .50!

If a .45 auto and a 10 mm are the choices, I'm taking the 10 mm. It's a bit more powerful than a .41 Mag. in the common loadings. Ammo availability is something to think about, not that many places carry it these days, but there is always mail order to fill that void. Ammo for 10 mm is pricey, but so is any good, quality .45 auto ammo too.

If I were buying a 10 mm, and I hope to one day, I'd get a Glock 20 with the 15 rd. mag.

Come on! 45 ACP or 10 mm for hunting deer.If you place a perfect shot maybe. My opinion, people hunting with these calibers should not be in the woods! There will be allot of wounded deer lost.

I'll second it.

They are both "cap guns" and wont do nearly a good job as a .44, I would get off the automatic bus and get on the wheel jet. Look at a Taurus .44mag revolver, youll have a great all pupose gun, home preotection, bear gun/protection, deer, coyote etc.

The above sentiment is exactly why I asked if there was an alterior purpose for choosing those calibers...

Or a Contendor with a multitude of barrel choices....

We are talking very close range and then it would have to be for some reason I couldnt take my .44 mag or they were attacking me hahahaha! Please dont take those two caliburs as serious deer rounds !!!
