Good ????
Alright fellow sportsman... I call upon you to guide me to the land of the steathy whitetail. I am due to transfer next summer and I have decided to go somewhere in the midwest or out east on a quest for a whitetail. I have several nice mule deer under my belt. Along with Sitka Blacktail and Columbian Blacktail.. But not a one whitetail. So if you had to choose a state to go "besides Kansas" there is no coast guard in Kansas... Which state would it be? I was thinking. MI,WI,MN,TN,KY,PA,ME... I just want one 140 class buck! Then I will be Almost satisfied! Your help is greatly appreciated!

What about Maryland. We have a coast guard. And great hunting. Plenty of land on the eastern shore and in western Maryland to hunt. Plus you can hunt on Ft.Meade after qualifing for your shooter card, which will be about 20 min or so from the curtis bay coast gaurd yard. We also have a very long archery season.

RE: Good ????
Come on over to the Great Lake State of Michigan we have plently of Coast Guards and alot of big bucks.
If you would like , we could hook up and you can hunt with me. |
RE: Good ????
I myself have killed a 150 class buck here in Indiana. If you can find the right land owner here that can be accomplished. But I would have to say Illinois, Missouri or Ohio.

RE: Good ????
East TN is actually a pretty good place. I have seen some true monsters checked in close to the NC border. If you decide to hunt east TN be prepared to climb some extremely high ridges though. Good luck wherever you decide to go. If money was not an option I would say go to Iowa or Illinois

RE: Good ????
I appreciate the info! I am originally from Idaho.. So east Tn HILLS are not a problem! RDHunter I am really thinking about Michigan! So just might have to throw some sticks next summer! What about WI? I like the real estate there..

RE: Good ????
Maine is a big state with some really big deer in it. Some parts of
the state has had a decline due to the coyote population and the rise of our moose population. Making hunting them a challenge and where you are looking at to be stationed if you came this way can make a differnce on hunting here. Posted land in some areas, heavey to light deer population, ect. It is not that uncommon in Me. to shoot deer here over the 200 lb. range with alot weighing in the 245-265 lb range. Whatever you decide good luck to you. |
RE: Good ????
Well living in PA I would say that wouldn't be my first pic though our bucks are growing you still have to compete with the other 1.someodd million orange clad weekend warriors who throw lead down...that's why I'm a bowhunter..lol anyway....of the states you listed I'd pick KY...it's been a real sleeper state with some magnificant animals...but most of these midwest boys can tell you more.
