My dad's 25+ years old beat up Remington Model 788 in .308 Winchester firing 150 Gr Remington Corlokt ammo. 3-9x40mm Simmons scope(Leupold in the next year or so)

1/2" groups at 100 yds, any deer within 300 yds is mine if I'm on my game.

Finally getting back into the archery realm this year.

I'm using a Remington Model 700 ADL .243 with Redfield 3-9x scope. My son is using a Remington Model 7 Youth .243, also with a 3-9x. I used to use a 700 ADL .30-06, until I got my son the .243. I liked it so much that when I saw the 700 .243 on sale, I jumped on the deal. It's a lot more fun to shoot, and I never lose sight of the deer due to the recoil.

I have four deer rifles
[ol][*]Winchester Model 70 Syn/SSchambered in .300 Weatherby Magnum w/Vari-X-II 6-18x40mm AO - custom trigger @ 2.5#.[*]Antique Winchester 1894 .32 Winchester Special, open sights[*]Rem. 7600 30.06 carbine w/Bushnell 3-9x[*]Savage 12vss .22-250 Bull/Fluted/SS/Synthetic/Choate Pillar Bedded Stock/custom trigger @ 12oz. w/ Swift 8-32x50mm[/ol]
I shoot one doe per year, and maybe a couple bucks depending on NR tags - but I pack the .300WBY for bucks, and take the iron sights out for my doe. My savage is relegated to varmint duty, but I could deer hunt with it if I had to. Most of my damage is done with the bow, so I don't spend too much time or effort fooling with rifles.

Still hunting, I may use my bolt action 30-30 or my 35 Remington. And also in one of
my ladder stands set up in various parts of my timber. If I am in one of my box stands overlooking the large field after the horses have been moved to their winter pasture, then I get our My .35 Whelen, where some shots could be over 250yds. I like to use that little 30-30 in the field too. As it is clip fed, and I don't have a tube fed 30-30, I find that I can load up 30 cal. spitzers and come up with a load just a little less potent than a 30-06. I use my 35 Remington for a brush gun.
After shoulder surgery, I have found that I can no longer pull a bow, so that hunting is in my past. I use my 50 cal. Hawken during the local Black powder seasons.
