RE: eating what you kill...
anything short of varmint/predator (fox, coyote) Them, I just skin and use to feed the crows. When I still hunted Chucks, they went to a old guy I used to work with. (he actually loved them)
|
RE: eating what you kill...
I wont kill it if I am not going to eat it
|
RE: eating what you kill...
I eat game or give it to someone who will. I don't eat varmints and pests though. Wood chucks lay where they die for other critters to eat. I don't always eat squirrels or rabbits, depends on when I kill them. They don't always die in season around here[:o]. Depends on how much damage they are doing. I always considered them as cute rats pretty much.

Yep! Opossum, Raccoon, Armadillos, Squirrels, Rabbits, Gopher Turtles, Gators, Sand Hill Cranes, Hogs and Deer!

RE: eating what you kill...
Everything I've ever hunted I've eaten. Deer, Pheasants, Geese and Rabbit. The only thing I won't eat is squirrel. I just can't get past the fact that they are a tree rat. :DSo, I just give them to a buddy.

RE: eating what you kill...
Use to Ihunted and shot dang near anythingavailable, but over the years I guess I got over it. I deer hunt now and other than the occasional snake I don't shoot anything else. I give away probably 90% or moreof the deer meat, usually after it goes to a processor.
|
RE: eating what you kill...
I don't eat coyotes or any other pest, but anything else I hunt,I butcher andeat, or give to someone that will.
Fish on the other hand, I've got plenty of people that will take them, I hate cleaning fish. |
RE: eating what you kill...
I eat deer, turkey, ducks, goose, and that's about it. If I kill a coon I will give it to a guy in my club and his wife will fix it with sweet potatoes. I hunt the openeing weekend of squirrel season and normally kill a limit (hunt only with a .22 rifle) and I donate them to the camp cooking that they have every year.(I eat steak that weekend). Any predator will be taken to the gut pile for the coyotes to eat. Snakes are either left where they lay or taken back to the camp to show them off. I try not to kill the non-venomous ones but, sometimes I can't control my self. I don't shoot animals for fun, I wasn't raised that way. I enjoy hunting mostly for the comraderie I get from friends and it also allows me to spend time with my family. Kids that don't get the oppurtunity to get outdoors are missing alot, IMHO. Right before deer season we donate all the meat that we have left over from last year to a local charity that has a wild game cook off.

|
RE: eating what you kill...
Some animals are not meant to be eaten. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be hunted.

I eat everything I kill. If I can't or don't want to eat it I don't kill it. I am not opposed to giving something away but I absolutely won't kill something and leave it in the woods.

I shoot coyotes and crow and won't eat either. I shoot rabbits and tree rats in my yd year round as they are pests and I don't eat them except for rabbits in the winter.

RE: eating what you kill...
I always wanted to try rattle snake but never got the chance. I can't believe you guys throw them away. I won't kill nonvenomous snakes.I usually catch them and show them to whoever I'm there with at the time. Kids find them interesting. My friends and I use to catch them when we were young. We use to chase people with them and scare the crap out of them. Not so now.
I once caught a 6ft+ black snake at an Amusement park one time.A small crowd gathered round and wanted me to kill it. I ask why? As I let it slither around in my hands,I explained to the small crowd, that this snake is not poisonous and would rather get away than attack a person. I explained that their bite doesn't hurt and the worse thing they can do is sh!t on you, cause it stinks. |

I have6 big ones on my property now, but now they are protected by the state and I have to call-in to have them removed.;) Man, they can sure dig some tunnels! It is a problem, because the cows can break a leg when they step on a tunnel. They sure taste Good!:D:D < Message edited by Rebel Hog -- 7/1/2006 9:13:23 PM > growing up i have seen people wreak their cars trying to stop and pick one of those things before someone else :D:D |

ORIGINAL: nc bearhunter growing up i have seen people wreak their cars trying to stop and pick one of those things before someone else :D:D When I had 10 or12 in the back of the pick-up I'd head to the black end of town and sell them for $2, $2.50, $3 and the big ones brought $5.Sometimes I would have 3 or 4 possums in cages and they would bring as much $7and $10 each. Same with Armadillos.:D |
RE: eating what you kill...
used to do about the same thing we would shoot coons and bring them to a older man and he would buy us a box of shotgun shells for each one. shells back them cost about 1.50 at western auto and we though we were getting the best end of the deal but we later found out he was selling them for about 4 bucks apeice:eek:but we were young and it was fun. we used to go to williston and get gophers on the west end of town it was fun.

I eat all my squirrels and deer I kill. For racoons I just skin them out and let my dad munch on them. Thats about all I hunt though. I do go quail hunting every few years and they are some really good eating.
