I don't see how you can really go wrong either way. Both calibers are tried and true. Some like chocolate, some like vanilla.

i have a .308 and its the most accurate gun i own, but its a semi auto, so its not my favorite because of weight, If u wont a long range rifle look at the 7 mm rem mag or the .300, those will take down anything

The game you shoot with either cartridge will not know the difference. However due to its larger case, the 30-06 will do everything the .308 can plus some.

i would have to recommend the 30-06. it's a great cartridge and i don't know too many people who would say there's a cartridge more versatile than it. furthermore you can go just about anywhere in the world and you will be able to find ammo for it. i use an 06 and i love it. i'm especially interesested in trying out the hornady light mag ammo. it's supposed to be comparable to the 300 Weatherby mag.

I've owned both, and I sold my '06 an kept my 308. The game animals will not be able to tell the difference on what it shot with. 308 with have slightly less recoil, smaller gun, shorter action, and a ton of cheaper ammo on the market.

Toss a coin! They are both great! I'd take the .308, but I'd have to admit, I'm prejudiced!

I'm sure just about everyone knows it but I think it might be interesting to point out to those that don't that the 30-06 bullet IS a .308. In fact pretty much all cartiges known as 30 caliber actually shoot .308bullets. Even the 30-30. Sofor exampleif you are reloading150 grain speer boat tailsfor your .308, your 30-06 or your 30-30 you take the bullets from the same box regardless of the case you put them in. Resulting velocities will of course wind up different as the powder charges and certainly case capacities are different but the bullets are indeed identical.

I'd lean towards to the 06. You have so many options, and if your gonna chase bigger critters you might as well throw as much at as you can. I shoot 165 grain federal vital shock with sierra bullets for deer. For moose I shoot 180 grain federal vital shock high power loadswith trophy bonded bear claw bullets. They packa real punch.
