treestands
I need to buy a new stand. I already have 7 other stands. I do have a self climber I hate the thing. To heavy makes to much noise. What should I do?

RE: treestands
I am hunting other woods this fall. Plus one of my stands is rotting away is no longer safer. Thats why I want to buy a new stand.

RE: treestands
I have 3 rivers edge 15' action ladders that I bought on sale for $75 and I really like them for stands for safety and ease of getting into; they are heavy though as all ladder stands are, but once up they are sure nice. For my hangons I love the Summit copperhead and the Millenium. Both of these stands have a hanger that is 1st mounted to the tree and than the stand is attached to the hanger. I like this feature in a hangon instead of trying to hold the entire stand and mount it.The millenium being the most comfortable hangon I have ever used.. For a climber I have a Summit Viper which is extremely comfortable but as noted by others the cables are a little noisy installing and it is not a super compact backpacker. The quietest climber to install to a tree appears to me to be a lone wolf. The equalizer is also apparantly very quiet to install onn a tree and it has the benefit of being tightened as you climb the tree.

I like the gorilla hang-on stands. They aren't expensive, but they are well made, easy to hang, and are rock solid. Give'em a try I think you'll like them.

RE: treestands
If noise and weight are issues with you then you're pretty much limited to chain ons and climbing sticks or gaffs . The only alternative would be a super light climber with belt type attachments instead of cables or climbing bars . Your climber sounds like an older style climbing bar type , I have one too and hate it . I bought an Ameristep Prarie Falcon cable climber on clearance for $45 + shipping from Sportsman's Guide , it's much lighter at 17# and it's normally no more than $120 at Wal-Mart .

RE: treestands
I have 7 API stands with the T screw for ease of installation. In my past I was a telco lineman so I use an oldlineman's body belt to help me to place the stand. Just lean back and have 2 hands free to put the stand up.
