Oh come on onlybow!!! i live in the woods they are 10' from my deck and there is not a house for miles behind me. deer do make a variety of sounds most we can barely hear. does calling fawns is usually so soft unless your right beside her you won't hear it. i've only heard it a few times and yep they were right on top of me within 4'.
and i had a RIFLE!!!!!!!!
And most bucks grunt so low and gutteral you have to be close to hear. i have heard some loud grunts but not amplified like the calls are .
have you ever pick up a fawn ? scream and bawl ! and yes does will come to see whats up. but not in danger they make very low sounds.
But "BOWHUNTERS" don't see things only reserved for them. a title!
i had some idiot from texas that stated he was a "trophy hunter" only killed trophy deer with his bow! yeah he shot a yearling and about crapped his pants. he only hunted with my camp one year why cause the "trophy hunter" had to have help to track that yearling about a mile cause he couldnt place his arrow good cause he was so nervous.
I just can't stand when people that own a bow all the sudden THINK they know more than anybody else about deer. i been hunting them and watching them for 30 + years and learn and see something different all the time.
anyway rhetoric is more than likely hearing an owl.

Soarkrebel,

You seem to be pretty agrivated? I understand your points but I don't think, Onlybow, ment any harm

He's a bow hunter and also spends alot of time in the woods. To me it didn't sound like he was rubbing it in.

Happy hunting!

Rhetoric
I note that you are in NY. I have had the hell scared out of me by what the Moose Biologist in the Dacks called a Moose bugle after hearing my imitation of the noise. This thing was about 45 yds. behind me at the edge of a swamp and I had just settled in waiting for sunup and the solar chill (winds) to start and this thing let out a scream that had me up out of my tree seat, gun at the ready doing a John Belushi shuffle trying to figure out what the was happening. Had me shaking for a few hours with adrenaline rush. Do you have Moose sightings up there.

You more than likely heard a deer. I've been hunting for many years and have heard them scream so loud that it can hurt your ears. The younger deer are very good at this they will scream at just about anything. I live in the adirondacks and I'm always out in the woods. It could also be some other animal, but if it was real loud I'ld put my money on a deer.

I kind of think it may be a screech owl. They are loud and it is impossible to tell exactly where the sound is coming from.

i have heard deer make a screeching type noise - usually after they have spotted me, or they knew that there was something there (me), and were trying to get me to move.
it is possible though that it could have been an owl, but deer do make a screeching noise...

Actually I have heard them screech, that is when they were running real fast and slamed on their breaks.

Bernie good one...LMAO

It maybe a deer or owl or rabbit caught by some dogs or Big foot or Cougar or maybe the DEC let out some monkeys by mistake...hey,hey. I don't think your DEC will let Panthers free, so I will make a big guess that isn't the case here!

Moose don't bugle, they grunt...sorry to burst your Moose Biologists bubble. It sounds like "ooooooooh oooooooh", just ask me I am a bowhunter!

Sorry soarkrebel, just spearing yeah!

Here in Texas we have people around here like the idiot Texan you mentioned. We call them out-of-staters. I hate when people give Texas a bad name.
