No baiting or deer feeding allowed in Vermont. Cutting cedar bows down in the winter is allowed.

No baiting in Illinois. And they just passed a new law (last year), that it is now illegal to put out mineral, or any feed in the off season. We used to be able to put out whatever in the off season, it just had to be removed 10 days before being hunted. Not any more.

Baiting is legal in Texas and Oklahoma.

In Michigan baiting Elk is not permitted.
For Deer, there are 7 counties that have had reports of bovine TB - there is no baiting there. In the rest of the state, baiting may be done Oct 1 to Jan 1 with the following provisions:
* a maximum of 2 gallons ofbait may be present at any one site at one time (that's not very many apples), and
* bait must be scattered on the ground over a minimum 10 ft by 10 ft area.

I don't know about other states, but Mich has had a problem with people bringing in bait by the dump truck load and creating HUGE bait piles -
I believe the purpose was to try to keep the deer on "our" property rather than on "their" property. Itbecame like a horsepower race - whoever can put the most food on the ground wins!
Now - we have these rather rigid rules.

I'm sure you already know this...but no inseason baiting for PA. During the offseason and up to 30 days before is ok....then all traces must be removed.

Illegal here , even mineral licks are considered baiting unless the minerals and the surrounding affected soil have been removed at least ten days prior to the start of the season .

Baiting is still illegal in Mississippi. Hunting deer over bait will remain illegal for at least another season in Mississippi. The House had voted earlier in the session for a 30-county pilot project allowing hunting over grain through 2010. The Senate had rewritten the bill to place the entire question of baiting in the hands of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
