JUST A QUICK QUESTION. I HAVE HAD PEOPLE TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE DONE IT AND OTHERS DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. HOW MANY OF YOU GOT BLOOD ON YOUR FACE AFTER KILLING YOUR FIRST DEER? I DID. IF NOT, ARE THERE ANY OTHER THINGS THAT CERTAIN CLUBS FOLLOW FOR A FIRST DEER.

About 25 years ago we were hunting one day and this smart mouth young guy shot a small buck, his first. We got back to the camp area and he was running around hollering ain't nobody going to put blood on my face. Well a couple of us caught him and took some rope and tied him to a tree and took the whole bucket of guts and poured them over his head, then wrapped the guts around his neck. We left him there for about 30 minutes till he acted like he was going to cry and untied him.

Dad and Granddad made me taste the blood of my first deer kill.
I would STRONGLY suggest NOT doing this with all of the c.w.d., and t.b. around in animals lately!!

there really isnt a initiation gig round these parts,but i ran around with blood on my face.thought it would look cool.

ive heard of drinking blood...smearing it on the face...and biting the liver or heart...and cutting shirt tails or sleeves if you miss...

In 1957, the first year of deer hunting in Illinois, I was one of the first to fill a tag (11 pt.). There were no old timers to perform initiation rites, I would guess that made me one of the charter members of the first season. Guess there is an advantage of being in the forefront. But that don't mean that I didn't get blood all over me with my first field dressing.
