Ive toyed with the thought of making a homebrew but I really dont like to take time out of my outdoors time to get into all that. I guess if money is an issue then id do it. But for now my NT Cuddeback works flawlessly. I had a NT Deer Cam from them that still works flawlessly after 6 years and about 100 rolls of film. So I guess Ill stick with products from Non Typical.

Moultrie 100 , cheap , simple to operate , and takes good pics . You're taking pics of deer and turkeys , not trying to outdo Ansel Adams at his own game .

A sample shot:

At 1.3MP the quality is more than acceptable for game spotting , if you want higher quality go for the 200 model at 3MP . I'll never understand paying $400+ for a trail cam that's very likely to get stolen anyway .

Ill have to vote for stealth cam, they have very good quality for the money, same price as the moultrie but IMO they are better. this place is where i got mine http://www.bowhuntgear.com/cart/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=jnqrgrf0

I'd take a Trail Ghost P41LE any day. www.trailghost.com It has more megapixel than the Cuddeback at 4.1 and can be removed from the unit to be used independently. You can also view the pics in the field unlike the Cuddeback.
I also think the Penn's Woods is awesome, but will set you back a few $$$.

Is cuddeback the only game camera that has the bear safe box accessory?
