RE: when do deer shed their antlers in Alberta?

I haven't seen antlers on a deer in over a month this way.Generallyby the end of feb but a lot depends on the stress levels (food situation, snow, etc). I suspect the majority are rid of the headgear by now out your way.

If it's like here the problem would be finding them, we have had a ton of snow this month.

Im not quite sure but probably some time around feb but they have all probably dropped them by now.

Try going to the Other Area Forum and ask the question you might get a better answer there.

RE:

:happy0001:White-tail typically shed their antlers the earliest. I found a 170 shed in early february, but went out today, March 2, 2011, and found that some white-tails still had their head gear on.. their time must be due. I am also under the understanding that the bigger deer will shed their antlers early becasue they want to get a head start on growing a new and much bigger pair. and today, March 2, 2011 i found a set of the biggest Muley sheds I have ever laid hands on. so I hope that answers you question. March is a good month for mulies I find, I call it muley march.

A friend of mine and I went out feb 19 hunting yotes and rabs and saw about 250 mulies and we saw some forkies and 3ers. We were surprised to see any antlers, but these were mulies. I havent seen any whitetail supporting headgear as of today but I'll be back out tomorrow. The whitetails in montana you can try to drag them by the antlers in late nov. and you'll pull them off sometimes. i've found sheds along a fence line with blood still on them in dec. I think the big boys have already drop but you'll see a spike or forkie.
