7.62 vs .308
hi just wondering if i would be able to fire 7.62 ammunition out of my .308

.308 is the same as the 7.62X51 military stuff. They're interchangeable.

As I understand it, they are the same but perhaps somehow different also.
When I fire surplus ammo in my rifle, the bolt is much harder to open. Im guessing it has to do with thickness of the material in the case neck. Or maybe that army ammo is made of softer brass that expands more, or maybe dont flex back so much after firing, or something. I dont use surplus ammo anymorebut have never heard of any other problem, exept poor precision. I hear some people even use it in 30.06 rifles, but that cant possible be sound. |

It means what 7.62 you are talking about. 7.62x39, known as the AK-47 round, can not be fired safely in a .308. Neither can the 7.62x54 Russian. 7.62 NATO, as described above, can be fired.
