RE: TWO GREAT HUNTERS

Depends on what your definition of a "great hunter" is.

If someone is hunting in areas most average Joe's don't have the access or luxury to get there, which holds high pops of game and trophy, becoming a "great hunter" may not be the feat some may think.

On the other hand, I look at my cousin Danny as the greatest hunter I know because he, in IMHO is probobly the greatest woodsman I have ever seen. Why? Because you could drop him in just about any forest orwoods and he would harvest animals. He has an unbelievable ability to find game sign, trails, blood trail, stalk - he's almost ghost-like spooky. He has a way of finding natural places to hide himself. Can't tell ya how many times I have had him just "appear" very near me without a sound (he knows he can & I think he loves to scare the cr&p out of me). He harvests only what he wants to meet his needs. It's all for consumption.

Don't anyone get their pants in an uproar, Freddy and Jack O have taken some awesome animals. But many peoples "opinions" of them are a little tainted because of what you don't see of them hunting. That iscamera folks, etc, who aren't in the footage. Where I (we) hunt, you can't stalk up on animals with people behind you filming and producing.

I think Fred and Jack are thought of as such "great hunters" because of the exposure they brought, not just to hunting, but to a great outdoors experience.

Our sport would definatly be a different animal if it wasn't for them and folks like them, especially the work of Freddy. And for that I let fly a flaming arrowinto the night as my salute to Freddy!

Fred Bear yes....But I would pit Larry Benoit against Jack O'Connor..
Jack O'Connor did write a good story, but for pure hunting and woodsmanship I would go with Larry...
