First time shed hunter?????????
Hello everyone I am just getting into shed hunting because i have some pretty nice bucks on my property that i would like to get the sheds off of. Well I guess my question is where are the best places to look for sheds. Trails? Bedding? field edges?

RE: First time shed hunter?????????
This year I have been haveing good success on trails. I don't usually look in the thick thick bush, but mostly in what I consider transition areas. The area between bedding area and feeding. IF you can find an area where the deer are really feeding hard, you'll pick up a few sheds. I work at a golf course, and the deer are thick. Occasionally you'll pick up a few in the grass and such, but I have had good luck in the surrounding tree areas where the deer either travel or bed. Just walk a lot, cover an area good, and don't give up. I got 9 so far this year. Last year I found 16, by far my best year. But I got a good jump so far. Looking for my first elk shed too.

WALK, WALK, WALK.
Anywhere that you might think is a likely spot to drop an antler,...fence crossing, creek crossing, low brush,etc... Funny thing is, though, in the past 3 years, i've found more sheds along field edges than in timbers. Guessing game, I guess?:) |
