It's always a shame to see them go like that. What I can't figure out is why the heck were they fighting in February ?!? I mean, he said they didn't die too long ago and they broke through the ice.Heck, they should be losing their antlers now not fighting each other with them.

I don't know about the other pair, but our first rut down here is usually the middle of Jan with a second rut in Feb.

I have also seen deer fight outside of the rut.
