In Wisconsin it is legal -- check your state hunting regulations. I know in Wisconsin we cannot screw anything into the tree -- all states are different.

Most all states allow the use of climbers on state ground. When it comes to lock-ons, is generally where the issues arise. Because if it is left for any length of time, then it is considered a permanent fixture. Most will allow lock-ons too, as long as they are taken down when you leave or are done hunting. Check your DNR/Conservation website for your state or call the # in your regulations handbook. I wouldn't want to leave any stand on state ground if I wasn't there with it anyway. That is just inviting trouble.We have enough problems with thieves on our privately leased hunting ground.

Michigan you can, just cannot screw anything into a tree.
