Default Your Opinion Kill Zone

On a large whitetail, if you aim dead center on his chest, and hit dead center, but you could go high or low. How many inches high or low do you feel you can hit a whitetail and be in that kill zone? Im shooting a 300 win mag..Thank You

Close to 5 inches high or low will still be ok. But in the real world, you have to worry about missing left for right too. If you aim dead center of the body just behind the shoulder, you should be ok if you miss 5 inches in any direction.

Are you meaning center of his chest as the deer is looking straight on to you?

if you can think about a paper plate like you take on a picnic, put it in the spot you are thinking about.lay the plate on the deers side with the plate covering just the edge of the sholder, just cover the edge of the elbow. just above the chest, that is a good kill zone.about a 10" plate.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

This would be a broad side shot.

A lot of guys say anything within a 10" circle, but I've always been taught that the kill zone is 8". 10" may hold true for a big buck, but there are going to be times that you'll take a shot on a smaller deer. I'm a lot harder on myself than 8" even, as I won't take any shot where I'm not sure I can put the bullet within a 4" circle. This way I'm almost guaranteed that I'll hit inside the 8" kill zone on any deer. The deer I shot this year was smaller than I'd usually shoot at (the scope played a trick on me, and that's my story and I'm sticking to it ) and my shot hit it 2" behind my point of aim which clipped the back 1" on both lungs and liquified his liver. If I'd have been 1 or 2 more inches back I'd have still killed him, but I'd have likely had to do some serious tracking to fimd him.

So my opinion is there is an 8" kill zone but practice for 4".
