Had a great day today
Hey guys! I had a great day today.
I went hunting with my two brothers and my borderterrier. First drive, a 400 meter stretch of land consisting of two long hills covered in leafwood with a small swamp in between. I had one brother on either hill and went in from the other end. I noticed immediatly on the dog that there were deer in and let him loose. He took off as fast as he could in the 10 inch snow and soon enough he started barking. Yip, yip, yip and a half minute later. Boom! A standard sized roe deer buck, 29 kg. No antlers at this time of year. We came across a few more deer later on, but they all outsmarted us somehow. Not that it bothered us at that time. Sorry about the crappy picture! |

Great report,
We don't get many reports from your continent. Is most of your hunting with done with dogs this time of year? JC |
RE: Had a great day today
Congrats!! I've never hunted with a dog before...sounds interesting. So whats the conversion from Kg to Lbs?
Congrats on the roe deer again! |

Congrat's 3D!

RE: Had a great day today
So whats the conversion from Kg to Lbs? 1Kg=2.2lbs |
RE: Had a great day today
400 meters is the equivalent of 437 yards. 29kg is equivalent to 63 pounds. I’m guessing the 29kg was a typo.
Either way, congratulations. Sounds like a fun day to me. |

Reb...
Your just like me...lol I actually converted 60 acres to 2,650,000 sq ft and a linear distance of 580 yds just to make a point in a post yesterday.... |
RE: Had a great day today
Ohoy! Thanks everyone! Ive only just put away the gear and already so much friendliness.
JCChartboy. Around here the roe deer hunting begins 16 August and then only with rifle and antlered deer. 1 september fawns are legal also with rifle only. 1 october we can use dogs and shotguns. We mostly use my terrier or my brothers SGP and they more or less only get the game going and maybe turn it around once or twice if i leaves thedesignateddrive area. This was a small drive area but hunting is easier to controland more fun when it is not a huge party of shooters involved. It is also very common practice to use dachshounds and bassets and "drevers"(no idea what they be called in english). They keep the deer in motion for maybe an hour and can keepthem circling in an small area. The hunt for roe deer is ended in last of januari in this part of Sweden. Heres another poor quality pic! |
RE: Had a great day today
Well done, 3Ddepression! Great to hear that hunting is still practiced in Europe. Thanks for sharing! I particularly enjoy hearing about hunting in Sweden, since my grandfather came to the States from Jönköping. He once worked at the match factory there.

RE: Had a great day today
BJR You are right. Thats a normal sized one. I may have failed to mention it but it is common practice to use US no 3 shots and it is absolutely enough.
