Savage 110 in 7mm-08 Rem or 308 Win would serve you well.

303 British are cheap and underrated as deer rifles. You can use it as a rainy day rifle after you get something more expensive.

30-30's are inexpensive and cheap to shoot. These guys always give them a bad rap. They are great guns with-in their range. They are good woods rifles and give you a quick follow up shoot. Also good for deer drives.

308 would be good too, if you have the extra money to spend.

Guns cause crime, like flies cause garbage.

Look, I'm a Remington guy.

Get a Savage 110 with a scope. In .270 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, or any one of the .30 calibers.

What does that tell ya?

If you are hunting in areas that 95% of your shots are 100 yards or less you can not get more bang for the buck than a 30-30 lever action. They are inexpensive, the ammo is inexpensive and with the proper load it has more than enough knock down power. Here is a fact, more deer have been killed with a 30-30 than any other caliber! Now if you are taking long shots on a regular basis I will withhold my opinion, because I do not have much experience in that type of hunting.

Check out the local pawn shops and newspaper ads. A lot of times you can get a very nice rifle with scope for a bargain. Pick a rifle that has a good cartridge selection as well as a decent price on the cartridges. A friend of mine recently bought a Weatherby .270 magnum and the cartridges run about $45 a box and there is a small selection.

Okay Muddy what is the poop on that gun? Heard a good review by the G&A editors. Love to have facts or experience.
