what do you call a yearling?

RE: what do you call a yearling?
I don't really call anything a yearling to be honest. A deer born that spring is fawn or a lamb to some people i hunt with, 1 year and a half old is a small buck or doe, then it goes buck/doe, then big buck/big doe.

I think a yearly is a deer that was just born this year.

Come hunting season I refer to a deer born the prior spring as a yearling.Taking Gene Wensel's advice from one of his books many years ago.I would never shoot a yearling but for those who do or for those who shoot a doe that has "yearlings"with it,it sounds a lot less harsh.

We call a 1.5 yr old a yearling. Also if I'am not mistaken this topic has been discussed b4. We took a nicebutton buck (fawn) this fall that wieghed 54 lbs. hanging on the butchers scale (ready to be cut ) compared to a yearling doe (small doe)that wieghed out at 70 lbs. not much size difference between the two.

I have seen several references to yearling deer weighing 40lbs to 50lbs.Are these really yearlings or are they fawns. The definition of yearling is an animal that is in it's second year.
year·ling (P)Pronunciation Key(yîrlng)
n.
[ol][*]An animal that is one year old or has not completed its second year[/ol]

Stubble, there are 3 and four year olds in the FL. Keys (Key Deer) that weigh 55-65lbs!The largest deer start in Canada and get smaller as you come south! I go to North FL or South GA to be able harvest a 160-175 lb deer!
