Well, Cardeer's necklace did its part . . .
I had asked Cardeer for one of his famous deer tooth necklaces last year. Well, it got here over the spring/summer (thank you, Cardeer!), and, seeing that NY's Northern Zone's muzzleloading season started Saturday, I figured that I'd try it out. Wore it up to camp. No one noticed it.
Saturday, one of our new members had a deer come up behind him--when he turned, said deer's rump was 50 yards away, and moving away fast. Ten to twenty minutes later, us drivers were on our way out, from the drive. One of the watchers came down from the logging road we had him sitting on. This watcher had his 9-year-old step-nephew on watch with him. The two could hear us watchers coming out. Suddenly, said 9-year-old says, "A deer!" His uncle looked up and saw the deer--said that it might havew been a spike. Oh well--we had a good opening day, in seeing a deer with all of the foliage still on the trees.
Next morning . . . I left the camp waaaay too late. Headed down the main camp road to my tree stand, which was 1/2 mile away (bad placement on my part). Well, I got about 100 yards down this main road. Looking right back at me, about 100 yards further, was a doe. Does are legal in the DMU that my camp is in. So, I raised my T/C Black Diamond, and touched it off. I watched her run away, through the cloud of smoke. We spent 'bout an hour looing for her--didn't want to leave a wounded deer in the woods. Nothing. No hair, no blood.
Had I done my part, I'd be posting about taking a doe in this thread. Oh well.
Cardeer, again, thank you for the necklace. Again, I didn't do my part.[:l]
Still making them?

RE: Well, Cardeer's necklace did its part . . .
I was fortunate to receive my necklace from Cardeer a few weeks ago and I can't wait to wear it into the woods this Sat for opening day of muzzeloader. I feel like I've done my part with scouting and stand placement...got lots of good buck sign...so I'm hoping the necklace is the finishing touch that will bring the big, old, gray, heavy-racked 10 pointer within range. We saw this old fella for the first time 2 seasons ago and caught another glimpse of him late last year. If he's still there I'm hoping the "Cardeer special" whispers in his ear and brings him in!!! I'll let everyone know what happens when I get back on Tues.
Thanks again, Cardeer!
