Not a big deal to shoot small deer. They all eat the same, small ones actually a little better. If a person cuts it himself, it takes less time on a small deer. Doe tags can be cheap and plentyful in places.

Why not? Those 57lb doe are excellent to eat. I have eaten deer that are yearlings and have ate deer that are 6 year old mountain deer that tasted like sawdust.

I kill the ocassional yearling. For some reason, it does hurt me to shoot one with a bow. But I get over it pretty quick eating it. Usually its a situation where I have to take a doe on state parks before I can shoot a buck. So if it walks with no horns, it gets an arrow. Then onto some more serious hunting. If I don't get any bucksall the way thru bow, muzzleloader and then back to gun, you bet I pop me small doe in the late bow season. I got to eat.

Do any of you guys, opposed to shooting small deer, eat Veal??? Just Curious....

I personally do not targetfawns but I know it happens very often...I have howevershot a few in my early hunting years and was very proud of them...Back then I was not good at field aging deer. Many things have changed since those years including my hunting style. Now my goal each seasonis to put one doe in the freezer and then wait out for a buck I would put on the wall(125+"). I often end up without a buck but I always have some tasty venny to ease the pain.

around these parts we catch the small deer alive and place whole on catfish hooks. The little ones kicking around really draws The BIG CATS.

I try to be selective on the size of deer I shoot.A small deer is better than any tag soup!! Something is always better than nothing!

My first deer with a bow was a shade under 50 pounds. Now, that was a long time ago...and I wouldn't shoot that deer now...but am I sorry for it? No.

It was yummy. LOL

To each his own.
