Leupold VX III or LPS, what would you do?
Hi guys,
I know that this question should be for gear review but since you guys all deer hunt I know you wll be able to help me out. I have a choice for the same price between a VX III 4.5x14x50, 1 inch tube no parrallex and a LPS(used but like new) 3.5x14x50 with a 30mm tube with side focus. What would you do? I'm a bit hesitant on the side focus. Does this mean that I will have to adjust the focus every time I bring the power up? I will be using way more for hunting than at the range. I know the LPS is more quality but I don't want to miss that big buck because I was out of focus. I need you advice!!! Thanks and Hope you guys all have a great 2006!
PS Skeeter, how was hunting in Saskatchewan? The weather was to mild when we were there. We managed to get a 165 out of the group. This is one pic out of 589 that we got of deer in Saskatchewan.

The LPS is a heck of a scope but does weight 3.5 oz more and is about 1” longer compared to the VX III. It’s a tough choice but I would go with the LPS. Good Luck...

I've got a VX-III 4.5-14x40, and it has been a good scope. It transmits light well, holds it's zero, has great eye-relief, is fairly compact, and is well-made. It has performed as it should every time, and that's about all you can ask for. I could have paid more money fora scope, but would I have gained anything? The only thing that disappoints me about this scope is I've got a Nikon that will do the same thing for half the price.
I'd bea little hesitant on the side focus as well. For a hunting rifle, I want to be able to point and shoot without having to make any adjustments. For target shooting or prairie dogs, no big deal. But for anything else, it is unnecessary.
