RE: Shed Question
I was asking because here in Ohio the BP season comes back in for 4 days next week. I have been in the woods on and off since archery started back in October and have not seen one rack.
At this rate I will be hunting for a large doe that I've seen several times out of Bow range with my 50 cal BP. But wanted to ask about the sheds as I was unfamiliar with the timing. I would guess here in Ohio it is late December thru January that they loose them. Thanks Keith |
RE: Shed Question
In the last couple weeks I have gotten pics of 2 that have lost both sides and 2 that have lost one side.
Here is a pic of one from Dec 9. ![]() |
RE: Shed Question
Antler shed is a result in a drop in the level of testosterone. Testosteronepeaks during the rut (obviously) when the days are very short and the does are ready for action. Testosterone begins to fall off as the days get a little longer...as they are starting to now, and most of the does have been serviced. Here in MD we have gone throught the primary and secondary ruts and will get a much less active 3rd rut as last years late born females come into heat...probablyin about 10 days. Once that is over, the buck's testosterone will drop significantly which will result in the loss of the antlers.
Best of luck. Craig |
