Good idea to sit on top of a hill looking down on clear cut?
 

Sometiems I hunt some public land, and we have quite a few spots were you could sit on top of a hill and look down on the clear cut. From what I hear deer love to broswe through the clear cut.

That can and often is a productive way to hunt. The only thing would be if you have a safe place to set to be out of harms way from other hunters. I don't know how much hunting pressure you have where you hunt.

Like James said, hunting clear cuts can be very productive. Especially during the rut when bucks are out looking for does. But don't expect to see big bucks out in the open very often. During the rut i say yes, but other times I say no. Unless you need to kill some meat.

Wait till that thing gets regrowth about 3 feet high and it will be a honeyhole.

I would find where the deer filter into the clear cut. Like a swamp or something. I shot a ten pt in the woods next a clear cut this yr. Good Luck!

To address the question directly...........

No I would never sit on top of a hill looking down anywhere.

When you're actually on top of a hill you are easily siloutted against the sky which allows any game to easily spot you.

A better position is always going to be a slightly lower position, just below the peak.

Yes they love clear cuts because the leaves they couldn't reach when the trees were standing - are now down on their level (atleast some of them anyway).

Are you well versed in your weapons trajectory when shooting down?
