NY HUNT
I live in Brooklyn, NY, but every single chance i get out to hunt, i do. My friend Tom and I were Hunting and we were using a deer call and we call in 9 deer within two days. 5 the first days, 3 the next morning, and 1 later that evening. There was only 1 problem all the deer that we called in were does. Do you guys have any advice to lure bucks in because till this day i still havent seen one, but I have seen enough does to know theres one out there. How Can i get him to come in closer and show himself?

RE: NY HUNT
What calls were you using?

RE: NY HUNT
IMO you'll have a tough time time calling them in this time of year. Find the food and set up a couple hundred yards back. The bucks are hungry...you'll see them.

RE: NY HUNT
did the call you were using have a long island accent??

RE: NY HUNT
I say watch the food sources as mentioned earlier, but get in between the food and their bedding. They've lost body mass from the rut, and the additional stress from winter requires they get enough nutrients. I'd try as hard as possible to sit all day. The mature bucks will have been patterned to moving between 11-2 from hunting pressure ( on top of dawn/dusk/nocturnal parameters), and the requirement for food based on how fast deer digest food.
In early season, bucks might not be as likely to move during midday once the pressure hits. However, the weather requires more heat (calories) to be used up, and the current situation of losing mass from rut makes the midday feeding an almost requirement. And Welcome! Please stick around and post. |
RE: NY HUNT
It wasnt this late in the season i t was in mid to late October. I was thinking maybe a decoy would do the job, but at this point i'll take suggestions from anyone

RE: NY HUNT
Then I would use some doe estrus and use a bleat call, grunt calland rattle some antlers every now and then.
