Aim high, low, or dead on?
My hunting blind for tomorrow's hunt will be set up on a hillabout 80 yards from a main deer trail. The position of the blind is about 40 feet of verticle drop below the trail. Do I have to aim high, low, or just center the shot as always at that distance and verticle drop. Using a 50 cal Omega ML

Typically your bullet will hit higher than your point of aim on downhill and uphill shots. Exactly how much I am not sure, I'd still keep the crosshairs on brown tho.

A 40 ft. drop @ 80 yards should not be a bad enough angle to affect your your shot! Good luck!

Prodided that your rifle is sighted properly for that range, just hold dead on.

This should answer any questions you have about uphill/downhill shots. Good luck!

RE: Aim high, low, or dead on?
At 80 yards with an inline you shouldn't have to worry about it. You might want to aim a few inches lower just to be safe, but I would keep the sights in the vitals for sure. I assume you are sighted in at 100 yards?
It would also depend on what your speed is, if it is really slow it may make a difference. However if you are shooting around 100 grns of powder with bullet that is 350 grns or less you should have a flat enough trajectory that it won't matter. Where does your gun normally hit at 80 yards? Paul |
RE: Aim high, low, or dead on?
Yes paul,
100 grains with 250 shockwaves and sighted in at 100 yards I dont have an 80 yard reading but at 75 yards i was 1/4 to 1/2 inch high |

Put it on the boiler room and squeeeze;)!

RE: Aim high, low, or dead on?
If you wanted to play it safe you could aim for the heart, and if it shoots high it would still be a lung hit.
I don't believe is anything you need to correct or compensate for though. Paul |
