Finally, a beast is dead
Been hunting since early october and passed on quite a few small bucks, but had just about resigned myself to no shooters this year. Sat morning was chilly for my area (only 30 or so but I'm in LA) - I hiked into a hardwood bottom, where a few deer had slipped by another stand, and sat on the trusty stool next to a holly tree. I actually thought our rut was over, but when fully light, I looked 10ft from me and saw a fresh scrape - not long after, I see 2 small bucks aggressively chasing a doe. At 0820 this guy came thru on the same path, but interestingly, he was not swollen and didn't stink - light deer too, so he may have been rutted out. Anyway, quite a rush - only thing that could've made it better is if it was a bowkill.
