I am just wondering what poeples prefrences are, would you rather hunt with a 12 ga. semi auto shotgun or a muzzleloader?

I have both, but in a single shot slug gun, not a semi auto. I have no need for an auto loading rifle for deer.

To me they are about equal, both have good sides and bad sides. My muzzle loader was easier to get really accurate and is cheaper to shoot per shot. However the shotgun is just as accurate with the right shells and is much more user friendly as far as shooting and cleaning.

The cost for premium shells sure is daunting with the slug guns though.

Another thing going for the ML's is you can use them in both seasons as well. If you were to only get one rifle and wanted to hunt longer the nod has to go to the ML because you can use it in two seasons. Then again most shotguns are multi purpose with a simple swap of the barrel.

Oh another plus for the shotgun, I can see my target right after pulling the trigger. Opposed to choking on a cloud of smoke for a few seconds.

With all the modern stuff I think they are pretty equal. 5 or 10 years ago, I would have said an inline ML hands down.

Shotgun semi auto or pump....I use both depending on the situation.

Althought if I had a few grand I might look into one of those real expensive fast muzzies that was somewhere on these forums recently.

This season I prefered my Savage 210 shotgun over my Savage 10ml muzzleloader. However, this weekendstarts muzzleloader season for me so I will be back to the 10ml....
