Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I was wondering if anyone has ever killed a deer with one shot? I had a chanse but I wasn't thinking about it at the time because one was a little small. But we desided to blast them anyway.
Shoot one in the chest and it blew the heart and everything right out and the doe still ran 150 to 200 feet with the heart dangling haha. I don't know how the doe ran after that shot. |
RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
lol...im guessing if you have a powerful enough rifle and the deer are in a correct position, sure it could happen. I would be a little worried about the penetration on the second deer just because the bullet was pry mangled and deflected in the first deer.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
Never a good idea to take the second deer until you know the first one is down and preferably found. Good way to lose both of them.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I've heard of a few one shot, double kills, but the ones I've heard of were suposedly by accident! (not seeing the deer behind the intended target)
It's not a shot that anyone should intentionally try. Unless they are both perfectly aligned, you have too much chance of wounding the second one, and even with perfect alignment, there still a good chance of bullet deflection! I probably could have killed three does with one shot this year, but I waited for the others to clear out of the way! In my book this is the ONLY ethical thing to do! |
RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
Its happened to me twice. Neither time was intentional. One one the bullet went thruogh the head of one and deflected about thirty yards up the slope and hit another through the chest. The other time there were two lined up perfectly. At the shot they both went down. I had no idea the second deer was even there. Both times I was lucky enough to have several tags left. Once was with a 308 and the other a 6.5x55.

Rut-I did it one time, strictly by accident.I did not even know I hit the 2nd one until another hunter came up and told me.Downhill shot, double lung on the first, liver hit on the 2nd.40yd shot, but not with a powerful rifle.Ithaca deerslayer 12ga.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I killed 2 does last season with my muzzleloader with one 250 gr Barnes Expander at about 65 yards. It was not a planned shot, but I saw an opportunity and capitalized on it. Both deer dropped in their tracks, and the bullet completely passed through both animals. The situation would have to be perfect for me to try it again.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I have!! I was on ther ground behind a tree while two doe made there way right to me. After trying to decide which one was bigger, I drawed my ML, they both walked right beside me and I waited for one to cross behind the other. They both split and laid down, both in sight!
Edit= This was last year! |
RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
havent done it but i had a chance to a couple of weeks ago. i would have done it but i was waiting on that big buck..........that never came out.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I do not think it is ethical to try and kill two deer with one shot. So many things can go wrong with taking a shot like that. A bullet or a slug can get turned in the body of the first deer and come out almost anywhere. This would never even cross my mind to try.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I never see two at one time LOL

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
Why would anyone intentionally take an unethical low percentage shot like this? The probability of a lethal hit on the second deer drops dramaticallly, and the chance of a wounded deer that is never found increase exponentially.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
The scariest part of this post is all of the people who say "I didn't see the second one behind it"
Remind me to never hunt anywhere near you. What if I was sitting across the field 200 yds away in perfect alignment with the deer. "I didn't see him behind the deer!"....Is that what you are going to tell my parents at my funeral? BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHATS BEHIND IT. That's one of the first rules in gun safety....maybe you guys should retake your Hunter ED class.....scary to think that some of you probably wouldn't pass.:( And to answer your question...no I've never done it. Not to say I've ever had the chance though. But even ifI did..I would wait for a better shot...IMO that isn't any type of an ethical shot, just too many things to go wrong. |
RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
Good post 308hunter.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
In my case there was nothing but a hill behind the deer. It was my land and the only thing that could have been behind the deer was another deer or object shaped exactly like the front deer. Don't know anyones elses case. ;)

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
James, i was questioning the attitude of the person who made the first post:
I wasn't thinking about it at the time because one was a little small. But we desided to blast them anyway. Shoot one in the chest and it blew the heart and everything right out and the doe still ran 150 to 200 feet with the heart dangling haha |
RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
When I wrote my original post, I was thinking of two deer side-by-side, not of deer further in the background.I don't think it is an ethical shot at all,if you can see the two deer!
I can see that it could happen with deer further apart by accident! Yes, decent hunters would notshoot towards houses, or other hunters! But, I can see where shooting two deer, by NOT seeing the second one could happen! |
RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
To the original poster of this thread, you have no business in the woods. To make a post like that shows how big of a jerk you are. You laughed about the heart hanging out of the deer. First I think you are lying and second to laugh about it makes me sick. You need to go and find another hobby. Get off this website and get a life. Guys like you set us hunters back decades.

RE: Anyone ever kill two deer with one shot ?
I agree that trying to kill two deer with one shot is not the way to go. You never know how hitting the first animal can and will deflect the bullet. This was easy to see in my first example where the second deer hit was to the right and 20-30 yards above the first deer. It never crossed my mind that this was going to happen. The second time I was not looking for another deer behind the first deer but it was lined up perfectly. It again was a total suprise to me. Mule deer seem to have a habit of herding together.

You feel free to tell me how horrible I am for not seeing a buck behind a buck down there oh wise one ;)

My buddy did this in NC this past season. He had shot a doe at a corn pile and it ran off and when he walked up to the corn he saw a dead fawn that was standing behind the doe. He then found the big doe.

it can happen I know a guy that did it on his first ever bow hunt, didn;t plan it, and he honestly ddn;t even know he did it at first, never say second small doe on other side of bigger one, new hunter and excitement , it happened
dumb luck on his part and neither one went far |
I shot 2 hogs this season with one shot in north Texas.
