How big are deer in the south

I am from northern Minnesota, and it is not uncommon to get deer that will have a body weight of over 225 lbs.(feild dressed). My brother shot an 8-point that went 235 lbs. On a trip that I took down New Orleanse (pardon the spelling) I saw alot of deer, but they all seemed to be about the size of a large dog. How big do the deer get in the south.

I live in East Central Georgia. I've killed mature bucks from 110 lbs. to a rare exception of 220 lbs. That is still the biggest deer I've ever seen. The average buck is 100-150 lbs. Average mature doe weight is 90-130 lbs. We did get a 160 lb. doe last Saturday.

Well I live in Tennessee if you consider that the south. My biggest all time buck dressed out at 265 lbs. I would say the average on the hoof weight for a 2.5 year old would be around 185 lbs. The average 3.5 year old is probably pushing 210 lbs live weight. I hunt River Bottom deer with lots of browse though. I have killed does on our lease on the Mississippi River that weigh 200 lbs on the hoof.

Largest buck I have seen live weight was 310# on the scales. This was about 35 years ago in the Troy, Al area. A good buck will push 230# live weight. A good friend killed a 12 point a couple of weeks ago that field dressed 205#.

here in south Ga. an average 8 point weighs 140 lbs. usually they won't go over 170lbs. Shorthair's area is north of me here, and our deer seem about the same size.

Just giving a quick shout to the Hinesville boys, I married my wife in 1981 and moved from Cola. SC the next day to Hinesville. We lived right outside the front gate of Ft. Stewart. I worked over in Midway and found a little piece of land over there to hunt, killed a cowhorn there. The move only lasted about 8 months though, we both longed for home and went back to Columbia and our friends.
Can you still get yeast biscuits from the truck stop/diner on 17A north of Midway?

Yeeeehawwwwww!!!!!!

Is that a dog box in the back of that truck? And are those dog pens behind the truck? Was this deer taken while a pack of Beagles or Walkers was burnin' his butt?
Man I hope so! It's hard to get a big buck with dogs. Congratulations on the Buck.

Where in South GA is it illegal to run dogs? I thought you said the deer was killed in South Georgia.

Wingnut mind your own business you won't be mindin' mine. If you don't approve of runnin deer with dogs, DON'T DO IT. What ya'll do in Arkansas your thing.

If you want to get an idea of how big some "Southern" deer are, go to [www.publichuntingland.com] They take photos of live trophy deer on PUBLIC LAND and post the photos to that web site in the hOTSPOT section. They also post the exact GPS coordinates of where each photo was taken. They have some VERY nice deer located on PUBLIC land in ala Texas, Tennessee, and some MONSTER ELK

I lived in NC for four years. I shot five deer and the biggest was a 125lb buck. All my deer were taken on game lands, so 90 - 130 is an average on the public land. They can get up to 200 on private land. Black bears are Huge in NC compared to NH. A 835lb black bear was taken on the NC coast.

I hunt in Va. capitol of the south, depending on whether you are hunting the western or eastern part of the state the deer average between 100-150 pounds average dressed weight, my cousin killed one that dressed at 210. The western part of Va. has the smaller deer due to it being mountainous, and the eastern portion deer are larger due to farming.
