binocs...

im looking for a decint pair of binoculars......my main purpose for them is checking antlers in the woods....up close most of the time....we got wonderful antler restrictions here...and i gota have 4pts 1inch long on a side........kinda hard to judge with an open sighted flintlock....i just dont know what a good binoc maker is.....and what magnification and size i need....i think a lower magnification and a bigger lens would be better to get on them quick and easy and they would be clearer correct?? im looking for something around 100 or so...i found nikon action 8x40s with the largest FOV at 1000yds that ive found yet...its like 400 and some foot.....and they are only like 90$....think something like an 8x40 would work good for my uses? quick and easy finding but able to count points in the woods.....20-50yds normally....but once in a while ill use them for a little farther stuff....but my main and most important use is for close up work.....i want something i can lift up and see the deer easily and count the points quickly......what do you guys think?? thanx

I just got a pair of Bushnell 10X50. They are less then $50 at wally world. Kind of big to carry, but are very clear and for the cost I don't figure I'd get too upset if they were dropped or something.

I have the Nikon Action 10x50s and they are a good piece of glass, they were in the $90 range as well. Check out those bino straps that hold the binoculars tight against your chest. These are the only way to go in my opinion. You can shoot a rifle, bow, etc and they are out of your way.
