How old is this buck?
 

This picture was taken down in SW Georgia. I can't decide how old this buck is. I would guess between 3.5 to 4.5 based on his body, but his antlers dont look much like a 4.5 buck. Granted, there is no high nutrition year round (ie. clover)--especially during may/june--i would guess that there would be enough food that a 4.5 year old would be looking bigger than this. The area where this was taken is in an area where corn and peanuts are grown mostly. Now that there is some background info, how old do you think this guy is?

I would guess him at 3 1/2 because he doesn't carry his mass through the ends of his horns. Thick bases that really thin out. I would shoot him for sure where I live, but thats cause someone else would if I let him walk. IF you feel like he'll make it, give him another year to become a monster.

You know I dont know if I believe this teeth aging stuff anymore. The spike my son killed is definately no more than a year and a half, but his first three teeth are so worn down I cant believe it. Looks like he's been eating rocks for breakfast.

He's probably been on some ranchers salt blocks for a long time? That will definitely do it!

2.5 MAYBE 3.5....thats what id call him HERE....corn and nuts is all my deer eat too for the most part....the neck does look funny...but from the antlers id say 2.5-3.5 nice buck for sure.....i wouldnt let him live another day

HE'S ABOUT 2 1/2 YOU CANT TELL BY HIS ANTLERS AND TEETH. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE BODY. IF HE LOOKS LIKE A MATURE DOE THEN HES 1 TO 1 1/2 YEAR OLD. BY TWO THEY START TO GET A BIGGER NECK AND HE GITS A LITTLE GUT. BY THREE HE HAS A BIGGER GUT AND BIGGER NECK. BY FOUR HIS GUT IS REALLY POT BELLY AND NECK IS HUDGE. BY FIVE HE HAS A REALLY REALLY BIG NECK AND A HUDGE POT BELLY AND STARTS TO GET A SWAYED BACK. BY SIX AND OLDER HIS BACK IS SWAYED AND THE NECK SKIN LOSES AND HE HAS A HUGE POT BELLY.
