What did she weigh?

Went out tonight and harvested a doe. She wasn't as big as I thought she was but she was big enough. Had a tag and all was leagl and legit. I took her to the processor and dressed her out. She weighed 85lbs. dressed out. What do you think she weighed before dressing? This is to settle a friendly argument between a buddy and myself. He says 90-95. I say a 100 or so . He's the one who "always" gets the "bigger" deer. If it was his, "damn, she's a nice one ain't she?" he'd say. Somebody else's, "she's a little one but'll do in a pinch."
It was my first of the year and I was itching. The freezer was getting a little bare and I've been watching her for a few weeks. Here in SC, starting Oct. 15th or so, every weekend is a doe days or you can buy 4 doe tags and shoot 4 on off days. I bought them last year and didn't used a one. Not this year, used my first tonight. Let the freezer fill on up.

RE: What did she weigh?

When you say dressed out, you mean guts dropped? I would think she would have 15 pounds of guts, etc. So probably 100. I however skin my deer and prep them before taking to the butcher, so i only see the skinned weights(which is what we refer to as dressed)...so really just a guess.

In any regards congrats on your harvest and just tell your buddy it was the opinion of many experienced hunters, butchers and biologists that your deer is in fact bigger than any doe he will likely harvest, so shut his pie hole.......LOL<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

You can tell your friend he's wrong! On a deer that size you normally have around 20 - 25 lbs of innards. The older and bigger they get , the heavier and bigger the innards get.

No doubt that she weighed over 100 pounds.Deer that big have at least 20 pounds of gut, heart and lung.

I'd say she went 100+ and your buddy is just jealous.

Takin' the 80% rule, your deer would have had a live wieght of about 105 pounds. This % can vary slightly, but your deer certainly weighed over 100 pounds live.

According to the chart at Whitetail.Com your deers' live weight would be in the range of 102-110lb
