Helping a newbie
Folks,
I finally got the chance to take a good friend of mine out on his first hunt. We had been talking about hunting and have gone shooting at the range since this summer. We had not had a free day at the same time until last Saturday. He had no hunting gear so he borrowed one of my guns, and we headed out. After about 2 hours a nice doe came in. We watched her for a while until he felt comfortable with the shot and he took her at 80 yards. That was the deer story but the real story here is that he was so jacked up that he asked me that afternoon to help him pick out a gun, clothes, gear etc. he’s HOOKED. I have to tell you this was more exciting to me than if I had actually taken a deer myself. I have been fortunate to have this happen twice in the past 2seasons where I was able to introduce a friend to the sport, they get a deer and they are now jumping into the sport. BTW, This is only my second season Being there when someone takes their first deer and seeing the excitement it brings to them is incredible. |

Great story Danny! That is what it takes to keep our sport alive! How long have you lived in Huntington? I lived there for about 10 years?

Living in Huntington now for almost 8 years. Born and raised on Long Island 26 years. Had a 10 years stint down there in FL with Reb (nice words Reb) Thanks I see you're in KY. I got the non-residence license there but didn't have any luck in Yatesville lake during bow season. It was my first try in KY. I may go The last Sunday of Muzzleloader there BTW My friend and I are heading out again this weekend. Him with his new clothes and all. He bought the new gun and we sighted it in but he hasn't shot it more than that. I suggested he use mine again since that is what he practiced with this summer. He's really wanting to take his but agreed it's better to wait until he shoots it more often. Now, I'm really looking forward to the 2nd youth hunt. Taking my daughter and my dad. Hopefully The three generations can be there when shetakes her second deer. I know my dad will be so excited if he gets to see it |
