I shoot both Winchester and Federal rifle slugs. Depending onwhatI'm feeling that day. Federal has never fail me, but Winchester has been so accurate at the range that I don't want to let it go too.:D

I am quite partial to Brenneke. 3" Gold Magnums (1-3/6 oz.) or the 2-3/4" Heavy Field Magnums (1-1/4" oz.). Thru my H&R Ultra Slug Hunter Deluxe in 12 gauge.

for those of you chosing sabots why? i have done a test with sabots v.s. rifled slugs . although sabots travel father but the are so much slower just wondering

1900 fps slow I dont think so. You cant shoot 150 yards accuratly with rifled slugs.

I have never been brand loyal when it comes to ammo. I will use what ever works best out the gun I intend on using. I usually have pretty decent luck with winchester ammo though.

As far as slugs go, I haven't shot all of them or enough to make a confident answer yet. I know what doesn't work in mine, and that is lightfield and the faster federal barnes loads. Niether would shoot worth a darn at 100 yards out of my H&R ultra. Winchester platinums did pretty well though. And it seems to like simple rifled slugs as well until the barrel leads up.

I used brenneke gold magnums this year as well but they were so-so out of it. And they didn't do much to the deer I shot either. Punched a nice clean hole right thru it and it ran about 100 yards. Lung heart shot at about 20 yards, not shoulder. I still need to try some of the other sabot offerings but I ran out of money and time for this season. There are several I would still like to try before making a final decision.

Just some constructive criticism...

If you you are going to have a poll it should at least provide some useful results. The options you have listed willprovide rather inconclusive information.

The pollreally needs to betwo parts. First whether a person uses rifled slugs, or sabots. Then a second poll should give specific options for each group.

The poll you have listed won't provide much insight into what folks are shooting. For example, you have one choice for Remington sabot. Unfortunately Rem makes two different sabots that each have different charectoristics. The same is true for their rifled slugs. They make 5 different rifled slugs all of which shoot very differently.

For example I would have recommended the following choices for Sabots.

Winchester Partion gold
Winchester Platinum tipped
Remmington Core Lokt
Remmington Copper solid
Lightfield IDS
Lightfield Commander
Brenneke
Federal Barnes Exander
Hornady SST
Other

In response to your original poll however, I use only sabot ammunition. Specifically only Remington Core Lokts, although I have tested all of the sabots mention above except the Hornady SST's which hornady is currently having production problems with.

Another vote for Lightfield sabot slugs. They give me the best accuracy out to 125 yards. The lighter faster sabots shoot ok out to 150, but I will accept a 25 yard loss, and have better accuracy. And their is no way a rifled slug is as accurate at 125 yards than these things.

Maybe in your gun, but not mine. At least not the ones I tried. Mine will shoot standard 1750 fps winchester rifled slugs around 1 inch groups at 100 yards, I can't see the extra 25 yards being much worse.

I've triem them all and my gun prefers the Hevi-shot slugs. They are hard to find. Hastings were all over, as were the new remington slugs. I think it depends on the gun. My buddy was shooting next to me and the Remingtons were best in his. We were both shooting 870's, his a rem barrel, and mine a hastings.

Awsome vid. that was neat and if u look in the video when they shot that first doe u can actully see the bullet that was alsome.

As for slugs in a slug gun i really dont now but i do that that the winchester slug shot horribly out of my wichester 1300 20ga.

I am thinkin about gettin a slug gun next year.

I like the Winchester Partition Gold at 1900 FPS. They shoot well out of my Ithica 37 Deerslayer. I wasn't impressed with the Lightfields. Some of the guys in my party used them and longer range shooting didn't work out too well for them.The guysliked them because they grouped well at 50 yds but any shot over 75-100 yds they are lacking. I think they are 1400 FPS and IMO don't measure up to the Partition Gold.

I have a Moss 835 W/RB and it likes Fed's and I have Brn (Belgium) A-5 with a Hastings ParadoxBarrel and it likes Win. BRI. I have a 200yd range and they will bust ia 4" flood lamp @ 150yds, that's good enough for me!I have been shooting BRI's since before Winchester bought them out, (Ballistic Research Institutein California).

Depends on the gun. My 20 guage likes federal copper jacketed sabots. The deer don't care for them much though.
