Country or Redneck ???
Can someone please tell me the differnece between someone being country or Redneck. I just got back from Missouri. I stayed with Strut and his wife to go deer hunting. These folks seriously live miles away from any 'normal town.' They showed me the best hospitality tha tI've ever been shown. They were great folks. I met many of their friends. Sure...scruffy beards and coveralls but the same..down to earth very sweet folks. I would call these folks country folks.
NOw back in Florida. The following I would call rednecks. I was hunting in a WMA the Green Swamp yesterday. They have back roads in there which are off limits to vehicles. I got up very early to hike that back road and then dangerously went wading through a bayhead to get into my locked up Summit. Just before daylight here comes a truck on the off limit road...stops and shoots. Does he score? I don't know but he blew my cover. I soon leave. There goes a red Ford truck with the driver having his rifle out the window going about 5 MPH. Would these be rednecks ? Wouldn't those guys on Deliverance be Rednecks? So is there a difference between Country folk and Rednecks? |

I think most times redneck is meant as a put down. Most folks need a label to look down on or feel supriour to other folks. A lot of ignorant folks put down country folks and label them as backward, inbred and stupid. The "Blue Collor Tour" with Foxworthy and the other "entertainers" have done much to further the myth.
Slob hunters that shoot from trucks are just that. Low life slobs! You can label them as red necks or most anything you like but please don't call them country. The country folk I know are hard working, decent folk. Most of them shun big city life by choice. Most of us don't want to live in a concrete fortress with dozens of locks on the doors. We like knowing our neibours and being able to trust people in our small towns. Of course this is the opinion of a small town country boy;) |

I wouldn't dare do that. I love country folks but I'm not to fond the others who give country living and hunting a bad name. There is a difference. I was raised country / hicky but because of my job I am in a concrete jungle of 100,000. But I'm still as country as it gets. I fish and hunt about every weekend. We have well over 100 WMAs in our state and I'm getting to know them pretty good. When I retire I will be heading back to the country. My family hates the city but we love the pay.;) |

I have lived in Alabama for 45 years and Im as country as a Butter Bean sandwhich ... beleive me There is a difference between country and redneck .... country people are the salt of the earth ...honest ..hard working ..and good neighbors ...MOST Rednecks (as defined these days)on the other hand areeeeee......YOU fill in the blanks!

We don't date cousins no more or less than anyone else. We're not "slack jawed yokels" that make moonshine and shoot at the "revernoors" , no one I know looks or acts like those folks in Deliverance. Not that there are not some in the country and woods but it goes on in all parts of the country. |

Chuck, most rednecks meet thier girlfriends at a family reunion and most country boys find them at church!;)
Not all Rednecks are Trailer Trash, you have many City Slickers that are Trailer Trash also. |

If it came down to it I would rather have red necks and Good ole country boys on my side any day of the week. After all they are the back bone of this contry. Well I am a honest hard working country boy who would share the shirt off my back. However I have shot out of the truck window so I quess I don't know;)I do not however shoot off the road.[:@]. I may be a redneck country boy.

Just what I thought..the two words are synonyms to some.{ Meaning the same thing}
So to some rednecks is just another word for serious country boy. And to others redneck might mean a country boy gone crazy. usually under the influence of drugs , alcohol or porn. |

Me and my freinds at work came up with this kinda as a joke but its kinda serious to me too but
we classify a redneck as one of them people you see with the gun rack in the window who dont own a gun a big jacked up 4x4 who couldent find the woods and a john deere lisence plate and hat but they have never even drove a tractor the term redneck has become somewhat of a "trend" I dont know about everywhere else but around here its the "in thing" to do so everyone tries then you have the "good ol' boys" "country folk" and what we call "country americans"(makeing fun of political correctness) but these are the real people who spend their days hunting, fishing, and doing all the stuff real deal country people do its not how you look its the way of life and you can just tell when someone actually fits that catagory when you your self are in it then we have the hillbilly catagory these are the inbread deliverance people who dont have running water and all that stuff then we have what we call "Trailerish Trashikus"(Trailer trash said like a dinasor so they dont notice what your saying about them) these are the people who have the 14 year old daughter who dropped out of school in 3rd grade and has 3 kids and lives with her 20 year old boyfriend and you can spot these people everyones seen someone who fits the catagory but this is what we use to classify people. |

Even some cityfolkgot nednecks from laying bricks or mowing grasseven thoe they an't never been to the country,when you meet the two youcan't tellthe def-er-ance. Most folks from around here are country just as they are any other place.Most of us even thoe wedon't lock our car doors at homewe will if we go to town that is if the door will lock(town= a place where more than two people can shop in the same store and never see each other)(countrystore- a little bitty store that has a bench out front for the oldfolks to sit and watch the morning dew dry,you can get a moonpie and a rc koler for under a dollar or get a gour-may meal at the fat coon resturent).Now a realredneck countryboy with good up bringing will pump a ladys gas just cause it's rite just like a cityfolk with good manners. He can be a good ole country boy redneck and live in the city and real cityfolk can spot you rite away cause good ole country-boys/rednecks wave at ever car they meet and say hiddy to ever person they walk by and most will tip their hat to the ladys unless their ole lady is rite there. Your everday sorryass sob countryboy/redneck/cityfolk will do his best to turn the gaspump back when you an't looking that's why they got pay before you pump,another way to spot a two faced sorryass red-neck/countryboy/cityfolk is by listening to their radio song when theyslides up in front of the store and block the gas pump without any intention of buying gas just to run in and grab a pack of smokes. When it comes the weekend they buy beer and pot with their oleladys foodstamps and get in a fight before they leave the store parkinglotcause one of them took the last 2 hits off the roach while the other was in the store waiting on the store-clerk to make them a sandwhich. A real redneck the kind that are good as gold but just an't right for some reason or another will bait his kidds and oleladys fishhook with doc's stink bait cause it stinksthen wipe his fingers on his pants leg and wonder where that smell comes from. Bad folks that shoot out of the window of their car or truckfrom the road in front of a house or across a field and all the other bad stuff are the kind of redneck/cityhunter/countryboys that gives good rednecks/cityfolk/countryboys a bad image. So please if you can't tell the def between the two don't judge them on their body art or their teeth or their music just say hiddy and stay clear cause doc's stink bait smells just like poo.
